The Knox County Public Defender’s Office is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Public Defender in the Common Pleas Court Felony Division to begin approximately October 1, 2022.

 

Qualifications for the position include a law degree and being admitted to practice in Ohio.  Prior experience with felony defense work is preferred but not required. Applicants who are taking the July 2022 bar exam will also be considered.

 

 The ability to relate to indigent clients with special needs is essential. The candidate who is selected will also be cross trained in order to assist with municipal court and the juvenile court cases. This is a full-time position, therefore, the outside practice of law is not permitted.

 

 The starting salary is negotiable based on your experience. Benefits include great medical insurance and participation in the Public Employees’ Retirement pension program, as well as the possibility of participating in a program to have student loans forgiven. Beyond that, Knox County has a low cost of living and a high quality of life.
