Topics to be covered include:

  • Ohio Administrative Procedure (including Nurse Practice Act)
  • Nursing Board Authority (including grounds for discipline, types and effects of discipline, pre-licensure offenses)
  • Negotiating a Plea (including sealing/expungement)
  • When the Board Gets Involved (including third party reports and self-reporting)
  • Practical Considerations (including advice regarding legal representation before the board and common missteps)

Todd Newkirk began his career in administrative law while working for the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.  In his capacity as an Assistant Attorney General, he represented several of Ohio’s healthcare licensing boards in disciplinary actions against healthcare professionals.  In 2007, he left the Attorney General’s office to work on the defense side of licensure matters.  With the depth of knowledge his early career provided regarding the specific laws and compliance regulations that relate to healthcare entities, he later founded Newkirk Health Law, LLC, where he represents healthcare professionals in a variety of matters including contract, corporate and employment law. However, the primary focus of his practice remains the defense of nurses, physicians, pharmacists, veterinarians, dentists, and other healthcare professionals before their respective licensing boards.
