Survey from OSC requesting input on decline of attorneys certified in Capital Cases
The Commission on Appointment of Counsel in Capital Cases is tasked with maintaining a list of attorneys certified for appointment as counsel for indigent defendants in capital cases pursuant to Appointed Counsel Rules 3.01 through 3.05. As a result of the monitoring of that list, the members of the Commission have noted that there has been a decline in the number of individuals certified. This survey is intended to obtain information from attorneys to attempt to identify barriers to seeking certification for capital litigation or maintaining certification for capital litigation. The information obtained will be used to create strategies to strengthen and attract new attorneys with a desire to practice in this unique area.
